Usually Membership & Instructor Insurance will run concurrently & expire on the same date - or at least that's how we try to manage it on the system (however, sometimes there are exceptions).

Thanks for the suggestion]]>

What can the IKSA do to improve membership numbers - by: Mícheál Mullarkey http://www.iksa.ie/kunena/suggestion-box/78-what-can-the-iksa-do-to-improve-membership-numbers#299 http://www.iksa.ie/kunena/suggestion-box/78-what-can-the-iksa-do-to-improve-membership-numbers#299
Once you have the higher subs, then maybe a monthly newsletter. One thing I'd like to see more of is a Calendar of Events well in advance. Annual leave is tight, but there are a bunch of events around the country that typically don't move whether the wind is blowing or not. A lot of us desk jockies end up having our Calendars booked out months if not the whole year in advance with family/holiday/other events. It would be great to know the kiting events that far in advance so I could reserve them properly.

Intermediates are also crying out for Clinics to bring on their skills. Sometimes the schools organise these. The IKSA would do really well to present a school with a group (or a number of groups) of 4-6 willing intermediates and then maybe organise accomodation around it. Biggest problem for intermediates is getting a group of similar level people they can chat to off the water and then be able to push each other on the water. IKSA is made for building those social bonds. Small groups is the key!]]>

Kitesurfing Progression Website - by: Kitesurfing Progression Website http://www.iksa.ie/kunena/suggestion-box/96-kitesurfing-progression-website#303 http://www.iksa.ie/kunena/suggestion-box/96-kitesurfing-progression-website#303
I’m looking for a Website Designer and Developer to create a kitesurfing website and thought I would write something up here to see if anyone is interested.

I have been running a kitesurfing progression league on a spreadsheet for the last 4-5 years which logs the tricks we can do and monitors progression throughout the year and I would like to get it developed into a website.

The main features are that it will let users log in and develop their rider profile, tick off the tricks which they can do which will show them their standing in their locality or any geographical region. It monitors progression and recommends new follow-on tricks based on current tricks. It also gives the ability to create leagues with friends to run their own private leaderboards based on progression so it does not matter what level you are at, a beginner can compete with someone learning unhooked tricks.

We have found that it really encourages us to attempt new tricks and keep on progressing! We are much more likely to go out and try new variations or attempt new tricks because of the rivalry between friends.

It will involve a large CMS with a lot of coding and customisation. The main points of the website are:

1. User Logins with profile – (Thousands)
2. Database with a large amount of yes/no inputs linked to each user.
3. Website Tables – data is pulled from database for leaderboards and charts.
4. Leaderboards – With filters for location and with links to individual users.
5. Graphs – Created from database.
6. Ability for users to upload pictures and data.
7. eCommerce functionality and auction style bidding function.
8. Most of the programming from database to user profiles is already complete in excel.
9. Many more features!!

I have completed most of the web pages in Photoshop already. Design is 75% complete but no background coding has been completed.

If this project sounds interesting to you could you PM me! We can meet up, agree fees and go through the full detail of the site. It’s a personal project so my budget is low but I think we can build this into a great site.

Thanks for reading.
Enda]]>

It would seem that use of the beach and lagoon are not recommended outside these hours, and doing so could be putting yourself in a position of unnecessary risk.

The article is meant as a guide for recommended use of this spot, when and where you decide to kite is really a personal decision. We must remember that kiting comes with it's own inherent risks and with that in mind a full course of lessons and potentially follow up lessons should be taken.

We must also be aware that beaches are public places and we should really give consideration to the public and all other beach users. Lifeguards too are only in place during the summer months and should not really be relied on for oversight and rescue - if you are unsure of the safety packdown procedures then organise a refresher with a qualified instructor and practice it regularly. Being a strong, confident swimmer is also wise - if you don't feel your swimming will get you back to shore, should the need arise, work on your swimming, wear a personal floation device, and do not kite further than you would be comfortable swimming back.]]>

We're still considering it a trial and are looking to members to give us a gauge as to how useful & usable this is.

The photo issue - ah yes - I think that's a symptom of uploading a pic from an iPhone, I was doing some testing on my mobile to see how usable and performant the forum was on the move - I've seen it happen with other websites for some strange reason - maybe something strange with 'attachment' functions and the iPhone storage medium.]]>

It makes a massive difference and now I have some hope of getting it in the calendar and organising the family to be able to attend an event / clinic / trip.
Thanks, appreciate the effort.
